Summer

As a student, summer is perennially the season we look forward to during the school year. Summer represents not only a hard earned two month break from school, but provides freedom to explore. With the ending of school, we have a wide range of opportunities to choose how to spend our summers. From working part time, going on vacation, or doing nothing at all, there are many different paths a summer can offer.
When looking back as to why summer was so important, we realized it all started back in elementary school. Back then, all it represented was the ending of school, but progressing through the education system, summers began to be more meaningful. It transitioned from a time of going to camp and enjoying the outdoors to a time where there was a chance to have new experiences.
While some take the summer to relax, others pursue working, whether it be a part-time job, or even an internship. Working over the summer allows an individual to learn, and experience what it feels like to hold a job. Yet while one may hold a job, they should take time out and go on adventures, as free time should be widely used. A reason why we chose summer is because thats where some of our best experiences come from. Memories form through such traditions as fireworks in Memorial park on the fourth of July, or even walks into town at night for ice cream.
The anticipation of summer adds to the desire of it. One of the best parts of each school year is watching the clock all day, waiting for that final bell. The last day of school is always marked by waiting until that last moment of class, that moment where not only one year of school ends, but also where the next journey of your life begins.
The last part adding to the want of summer is the weather. After struggling through a snow filled winter, the warm sun-rays of June serve as a great reward. While there are the obvious cons of sunburn, tan-lines, and constant heat, there is no way to think those are worse than shoveling snow in five degree weather. The warm sun matched with a cool drink leads to days of relaxing in summer, which is what summer is really meant for.
Going deeper into the theme of summer, it’s more of a package instead of just a season. It ties together opportunity, a chance for new experiences, traditions, and more importantly a time to relax with whoever you choose before diving into a new school year.
